BIG CHANGE TO AWARD OF SCHOLARSHIP!
Prior to March 2009, the Bob Bittner Memorial Scholarship* was formally awarded in November of every year at the CFFU Annual Dinner.  The scholarship recipient will no longer be acknowledged at the annual CFFU dinner.  A more timely award will be made in March, allowing the recipient to get the most benefit from the scholarship.
The application and  requirement procedures for the scholarship have been updated by CFFU and the University of California at Davis.  All applications will now be due by January 31st.  Beginning in 2010, the applicant who was accepted for the CFFU Bittner Scholarship will then be presented with the award at the March CFFU General Meeting, and will be offered the opportunity to make a presentation about his/her program as the main speaker at that meeting.

2011 Scholarship Award Report , by Bill Felts
CFFU presented its 2011 Bittner Scholarship Award to Rosemary Hartman at the April 5, 2011 General Meeting. Each year, CFFU awards the Bittner Scholarship to a university student who is conducting research on a subject closely related to the fly fishing interests of our Club. This year's recipient is Ms. Rosemary Hartman. She is a PhD candidate at the University of California, Davis in the Ecology Graduate Program. Her research focuses on how various stocking levels of trout in mountain lakes with no native fish might affect other lake dwelling species. Introduced fish often have a negative impact on some native creatures, including endangered amphibians such as frogs. Her objective is to determine to what extent stocked fish can coexist with native species a low stocking levels. Ms. Hartman will use her $2,800 award to purchase equipment and pay for staff and travel expenses for her field work at northern California lakes. The objective of her research is to provide wildlife managers with the data and information necessary for decisions that provide a balance between new recreational fishing opportunities and preservation of viable native ecosystems.

2007 - Rebecca Quinones, "Impact of land use on stream productivity and salmon populations"
2008 - Bruce Hammock, "Importance of causes of masses of mayfly drift in streams"
