Outings are scheduled each month of the year to take advantage of the excellent and varied fishing that is near Sacramento. Club outings occur in the streams of the Sierra and Northern California, the lakes and reservoirs of the Central Valley, the Sacramento River Dalta, and the Pacific Ocean for surf fishing.

During the Spring and Summer, when river flows permit, CFFU has Wednesday evening outings on the American River. This is an excellent opportunity to stop by after work and get in some fishing with other CFFU members and friends. We fish for Shad in the spring and early summer and for steelhead in the Fall.

Once or twice a year the club members will enjoy a trip to a more "exotic" location, maybe Christmas Island or Montana.

  2012 O UTING SCHEDULE

Most outings are one day long and work well with the busy schedules many people have. However, the three day annual Truckee River Outing has become a CFFU tradition and is enjoyed by many members every year.

In addition to the organized fishing outings, we have other events that are more social.

Note to Fishmeisters and potential Fishmeisters:  There are still days open on the calendar to go fishing, so please don't hesitate to volunteer to take a group to one of your favorite fishing spots.  I would be happy to help organize it.  Thanks to all who have volunteered so far.  The club appreciates it.

Being the "Fishmeister" is easy.  All you have to do is let the Outing Chair know what you want to do, and then plan an outing.  This means deciding on a location and sending out an e-mail or two. You will want to have members meet at a certain time and place.  A restaurant for Breakfast works well, and then new (and old) members can meet others and get some help or ride-share for the day. Also, plan to meet for lunch whether it is a "catered" lunch - which you are encouraged to do, or a BYOB (bring your own bag), and everyone can compare fish stories.  If you choose to cater lunch for the group, it can be anything from bringing a BBQ & grilling hot dogs or tri-tip, pot-luck or picking up Subway sandwiches.  Then you collect a fee from each person for the lunch, just enough to cover the expense of the food & beverage.  (Sorry, no tips for the Fishmeister.)
The Fishmeister is also responsible to assign someone to take pictures during the outing.  Photos should be sent to your Webmeister within a week after the outing, along with the Outing Report, which the Fishmeister or volunteer should prepare and send to both the Webmeister and the newsletter editor.
