2012 ISE REPORT

On January 19-22,
January 19-22, 2012 CFFU was at the annual International Sportsmen's Exposition (ISE) event at Cal Expo in Sacramento. The ISE is one of CFFU's yearly new members recruiting event, and we also raise funds for club activities and Kids programs by direct solicitation and a fly rod raffle. I asked club members to volunteer and help participate in manning our membership booth and making this years recruiting drive a success. I would like to thank everyone who helped with the ISE CFFU Membership Booth this year. Helping set up the booth two days before the show was: Howard Ross and Robert Rountree. On the first day of the show, I drove out to the Nimbus Fish Hatchery to pick up 8 fish for our fish tank display. I would like to extend a special thanks to Mark Delong for donating a handmade bamboo fly rod for our raffle. The members who helped man the membership booth during the ISE were: Bob Bettati, Joe Puglisi, Andy Penn, Carl Lang, Tim Landrus, Beth Ison, Brandie Herron, Arthur Herron, Dick Angus, Meloney Welborn, Earlene Coldiron, John Coldiron, Stephen Egan, Mike Okazaki, Glenn Yee, Konny Friedman, Barry Tang, Michael Wall, Ken Waterstreet, Bill Montalvo, Paul Wisheropp, David Sylsrta, Denny May, Bud Raybourn, Ron Adams, Bill Felts, Larry Coulter and Don Wallace, and I, Rich Wilson. Larry Coulter and Don Wallace helped me take down the booth after the show. During the ISE show we recruited 6 single memberships and 2 family memberships with a number of people who said they were interested and would come to our regular meeting to check us out. After the ISE show during our February 7th regular monthly meeting we signed up 2 family and 7 single memberships for a total of 17 new memberships. All of these new members came by our membership booth, picked up information and showed interest in becoming a member. Also during our monthly meeting the winning ticket was drawn from the numerous tickets sold at the ISE show for an 8 foot, 5 weight, 3 piece handcrafted bamboo fly rod by our own CFFU member Mark Delong. Mark spent over 40 hrs building the fly rod from scratch. One of our new CFFU members' small son, pulled the winning ticket with Carl Lang's name on it. Carl resides in Fair Oaks; California and has been a member of CFFU for over 8 years managing our Technical Services section for the club. Congratulations Carl on your new handcrafted bamboo fly rod. Thank you everyone for all your help and dedication during this years Sportsmen's Exposition!

This was the twelfth year the CFFU has put on Fly Tying at the ISE Youth Fair. Would like to thank all those that helped with the Youth Fair at the Sportsman's Expo 2012. We had a great time this year tying flies with the youth we tied over 200 flies. I would like to thank California Fly Fishers Unlimited members, Howard Ross, Paul Courter, Dell Clark, Barry Tang, David Little, Bob Effa, Bob Larne, Larry Garman, Jeff Howard, Ken Gieser, Dick Angus, Keith Adachi, Tim Landrus, John Coldiron, Greg Van Koersel, Bill Siska, and Don Edger for their great job tying with the youth. I would like to thank Fly Fishing Specialties for donating for some of the materials that we used at the Youth Fair. I would also like to thank Eagle Claw Fishing Tackle for donating the hooks that we use at the fair. Thank you all for a great show.

Come check out the latest in fly fishing equipment, hunting gear, RVs, etc., and get information from multiple guides and resort vendors vying for your patronage. ISE is CFFU's main yearly new member recruiting event, and we also raise funds for club activities by direct solicitation and a fly rod raffle.
As always, we're asking for your help and participation as a volunteer to make this a successful recruiting drive. A volunteer sign-up sheet will be available at the general meeting for volunteers to help staff the CFFU booth. We are limiting volunteers to 3 people per shift this year related to quantity of 1-day passes available from ISE.
