Originator: Tom Rosenbauer

This particular pattern was developed by Tom Rosenbauer, who is currently the marketing director for Orvis Rod & Tackle. Tom claims to have caught a lot of trout with this fly. This is a relatively easy and durable pattern. I have tied it here in olive, but it can be tied in a variety of colors in order to match the hatch in your favorite fishing waters.

(Photo 1)      Pinch the barb and lay down a thread base from just behind the eye to half way down the bend of the hook. Next, tie in the Antron yarn for the tail or shuck. The length should be about the same as the hook gap.

(Photo 2)      Dub a tapered body using olive hares ear dubbing, leaving room behind the eye for the wing, throat and thorax.

(Photo 3)   Tie in a small clump of snowshoe rabbit's foot guard hair on top of the hook shank to form the wing. The length should be about the same as the hook gap.

(Photo 5)    Dub the thorax with the dark olive hares ear dubbing. Whip finish and apply head cement.

(Photo 4)   Tie in a small amount of olive CDC fibers to form the throat.

(Photo 6)    To give it a buggy appearance, use a dubbing brush to bring out some of the longer guard hairs. Give it a try.
