LAKE DAVIS OUTING REPORT
By Joe Puglisi & Russ Heckley
Another Davis Lake outing has gone in the books. The
RVers
, Russ & Debbie
Heckley
, Joe & Verna Puglisi, Bill & Penny
Siska
, Bob & Phoebe
Larne
, and Rich & Julia de
Borba
showed up on Wednesday to get settled in and prepare to test the waters on Thursday for which flies would work. The weather was mild with temperatures in the eighties during the day and dropping to the sixties and cooler at night. Everyone hooked a few fish with Type 3 and 4 lines, using mostly
Sheeps
Creek Specials, Wiggle Tails and Renegade Flies. Friday, the suggestion was made by
Fishmiester
Russ that we fish Frenchman's Lake, which was not the best idea. (Well, it was a good idea, it just didn't result in many of us catching fish.) Again, a few fish were caught at 25 to 30 feet. Water temperature was between 70 to 72 degrees.
Saturday, we were back at Davis and the pros showed up--Del Clark, joined by Bruce Bartholomew. The assault on the lake continued with the likes of Bill Felts, Carl Lang, John and Earlene
Coldiron
. John made a successful maiden voyage on his float tube and hooked a few fish.
We broke for a lunch of delicious pulled pork sandwiches with colewlaw as a condiment (the pulled pork made, delivered and served by Debbie Heckley), along with chips, salads, cookies, sodas & water. Russ and Donna helped Debbie set out the food. Russ and friends had set a pop-up out to shade the luncheon. Ask Russ about taking it down!
At the end of the day, Bill Felts thought he had lost his new Force Fins either in the
lake or on the bank. After an
exausting
search by several people they were found in his float tube?
The outing continued Saturday night back at the RVs with a potluck dinner that was fabulous. No one should have gone away hungry, as there was a ton of food and lots of leftovers.
To sum up, I think everyone had a great time and either hooked or caught some fish with Del Clark leading the way using a Double Renegade.
