Big M Fishery Outing
Saturday, March 10, 2012
Assistant Fishmeister: Open
Fishmeister: Glenn Yee
WHEN: Saturday, March 10th FISHING: All day fishing - catch and release. If you want to keep the fish, you can, just notify the owner. There is a trout pond that holds ten to 16 inch trout weighing up to two pounds, a Black Bass pond that has 8 to 14 inch Bass and a catfish pond that has 10,000 pounds of fish in the largest and muddiest pond. Try hooking into one of them and you have a fight on your hands. It is easy walking and we recommend a stripping basket if you have one, but not necessary if you don't mind the weeds. DIRECTIONS :

MEALS: FISHING LICENSE: Not required to fish at Big "M" Fishery BIG "M" FISHERY: Big "M" Fishery is a family oriented place with picnic tables in the trees with shade and a grassy area. There are flush toilets. EQUIPMENT: Trout - 5-8 wt rod (rods smaller than 5 seem to stress the fish too much), floating or intermediate sinking line, long handled net. All kinds of wet flies seem to work: black leeches and wooly buggers (better with some pearl and red flash), blond stayners, any kind of nymphs, birdsnest, prince, PT, elk hair caddis fished under surface. Hook sizes 8-16 (Ross prefers to use larger hooks so he doesn't deep hook the fish.) Some use 2 flies, a large front fly, and a smaller trailer tied onto the bend. Use barbless hooks or smashed down barbs. BRING: You may need rain gear! A chair, suntan lotion, bug/mosquito repellent, sun glasses. WEBSITE: . COST: $15 per person, Pay at the Booth! Catch and release (You can keep one fish between 1 - 3 pounds)
Come on out to Big M and tune up your casting skills, and maybe catch a fish ---
MAP to IHOP, 6751 Stanford Ranch Road, Rocklin, CA BASS: Hard to catch, 6 - 8 wt rod. BLUEGILL: There are tons of them. Try a floating line with a foam ant - most are small but some nice hand size ones. NOTES: If it has rained the last few days before the outing, there are muddy spots. Bring mud boots. The mud can be tough on your line, too. Try an old rod and line. A stripping basket can be useful, especially on the bass pond, which has lots of line-grabbing weeds. DEMOS: Orvis Representative Jason Cotta will be there with rods and reels available to demo, including switch rods! Please contact Glenn Yee if you would like to try out some of the Orvis equipment! |
